  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of up to 9 engineers performing technology development for robot subsystems using state of the art project management techniques formed from a hybrid of Agile and traditional waterfall methodologies.
  • Managed a budget of $2.5M, assembled team members from within the organization and worked with contractors to find new and existing talent to create a cohesive team.
  • Directed development path to target the technology that would benefit the organization as a whole as well as upcoming spaceflight programs.
  • Interfaced with other PIs across the agency to build relationships and enable networking amongst team members, consolidate lessons-learned, and promote future partnerships.
  • Mentored junior Electrical Engineers through PCB design and development tasks.
  • Key architecture designer for sensor fusion and fault tolerant control of a robotic series elastic joint.
Electrical & Computer Engineer ‐ Robotic Systems Technology (JSC-ER4)

Lead electronics engineer for Robonaut 2‘s hand, forearm and other related spin‐off projects responsible for:
  • Designing the sensing, control, and motor drive electronics of dexterous, humanoid robotic forearms for use in an EVA space environment
  • Implementing and analyzing firmware in hardware-description languages and software in C and C++
  • Continued development of the “RoboGlove” robotic grasp assist device electronics, software and sensing
  • Rapidly designed electronics and software for Robonaut spin-off project prototypes
Robotics Engineer – Woodside Energy, Ltd.

Assigned by NASA to Woodside Energy to provide advice, lend my expertise, and guide development of their fledgling robotics program:
  • Mentored and guided the robotics team through details of robotics operation such that they could become better buyers of related technologies.
  • Instructed and tutored employees in robotics and software development techniques for robots.
  • Participated as part of the team of engineers that performed on-site testing of robots at a live liquified natural gas processing facility.
  • Exchanged lessons learned on utilizing modern project management methodologies to promote iterative development and nimble reaction to change, while still enabling reporting features for management through the use of JIRA.

  • Continued development of “RoboGlove” electronics and software reducing size, power consumption, and complexity
  • Developed multiple-build-variation power channel controller for Robonaut 2‘s battery backpack
  • Co-chair of Website Governance Board and carried out all changes, upgrades, and updates

  • Developed and programmed a calibration system for the dexterous finger joint sensors on Robonaut 2
  • Engineered a modular multi-axis motor driver for brushless DC motors

  • Designed power supply for experimental LED panel to be flown on ISS
  • Designed circuitry and PCBs of expansion modules for wireless sensor nodes which included piezoelectric device charge-amps, automatic cross-talk testing, and interface boards
  • Was an integral team member for the Habitat Demonstration Unit’s avionics and control system development, integration, assembly, testing and troubleshooting
  • Developed firmware in C for the wireless sensor network system’s MSP430 microcontroller, which included full APIs such as a serial interface API
Co-op – ISS Mechanisms and Maintenance (JSC-DX4)

  • Created failure case book, pertaining to the Regenerative Environmental Control and Life Support System (Regen-ECLSS) of the ISS, to be used for planning simulations for training flight controllers and crew
  • Designed quick-reference summary sheets detailing the fluid umbilical connectors internal to the ISS, including their failure modes and troubleshooting tasks
  • Engineered a simplified electrical schematic of the Waste and Hygiene Compartment subsystem from Russian and Boeing system schematics for reference troubleshooting
  • Assisted in Mission Control Center flight controller troubleshooting and administrative tasks
